Wireless bridge using XP bridge on laptop - can't get it to work!

On a laptop with two adapter:

- a wireless connected to the public internet trough a router AP
- a builtin ethernet NIC connected with a crossover cable to an IP phone

I wish to bridge the two adapters so that the IP phone is issued an
internal IP (192.168.xxx.xx) by the DHCP server on the router and ends up
on-line,connected to the public internet.

Using netsh command I checked that the wireless adapter (Orinoco PCMCIA)
is in promiscuous mode and even usued the forcecompatmode=enable command
just in case.

The bridge does not aquire an IP from the router because as soon as XP
built the bridge, the wireless adapter link to the router an its DHCP
server is lost. What is wrong. I read that it is supposed to work:

Could it be that the Orinoco wireless adapter does not support promiscuous
mode even though it reports that it is enabled? Where could I find if it
does or not?

I have exactly the same problem. See my post yesterday.
Slightly different set up but same basic issue that my
wireless adaptor (Belkin Bluetooth USB) doesn't appear to
be able to get an IP address through the bridge. Works
fine if I just link the DSL adaptor (thru ICS) to the
Bluetooth adaptor on it's own. But will not go thru the
bridge. I also tried the promicuous stuff but made no
difference.

I hope someone can help us!

Hi N. Pritchard,

This is frustrating indeed and I try allover the net to find
an answer. No such a luck. The article from Crawford (MS)
made it sound so simple... but it forgot to say wich wireless card
was used for this working bridge. I wrote MS but ... I don't
expect a reply.

I found the same article and thought I'd hit gold. It
describes exactly what we are both trying to do. What we
really need is access to the lady that wrote the article
because I get a sesne she'd come up with a solution.

I have my answer ... not good: someone tried the same bridge with an
Orinoco PCMCIA card and found out too that it does not work.

The fault is the Orinoco driver. I will have to use an other wireless
card. He is the message found on MS Newsgroup:

Unfortunately I didn't solve this problem. A US-dealer for Orinoco-cards
gave me the answer, that this is a driver-issue. Maybe Orinoco don't
want to support the XP bridge, to sell their own wireless bridges.

If you want to build a wireless bridge using XP, you may use the D-Link
DWL-120 adapter. This one works, I tested it by myself.

There is also a wireless adapter from Dell available which should work,
but I didn't tested it.
