Wireless Network Access to Internet

Posted: 10-10-2003, 02:42 PM
I am attempting to set up a wireless, (Dlink
802.11/a/b), dual mode wireless network between a Sony
Vaio notebook running Win Me and a Sony Desktop running
Win XP(Home). My Desktop is connected to the internet
via USB connection to Hughes Modems (Direcway
Satellite). I have the Desktop connected via Ethernet
NIC to a DLink 754 dual band router. The Win Me notebook
has a DLink DWL 650AB PMCIA wireless card installed. The
wireless card installation works with other wireless
hotspots. The notebook "sees" the wireless connection to
the DLink router. I can access shared folders on the
Desktop from the notebook. However, I have not been able
to get the notebook to see the Internet thru the wireless
connection to the Desktop. This seems to be an issue
related to the quirkiness of the internet access coming
into the Desktop via USB. Any ideas about how I should
go about making this work. (Bridging of networks, etc.?)

Thanks,
John

On ANY direcway satellite system that uses the USB you
>HAVE< to disable the DHCP functionality of the router.
Then you enable the Internet connection sharing on the
computer that is connected to the Satellite.

The ICS acts as a mini-DHCP server and assigns IP
addresses out to the other machine which is why you have
to disable the DHCP on the router. As a side note,
DirecWay will NOT support this setup. If you want to have
multiple systems on a satellite then they recommends
upgrading to the Small Business Package.
