Wireless Network Problems

Posted: 07-12-2006, 11:18 PM
My notebook (running Vista) connects to my home network with no issues.
At work I connected just fine this morning, then after the notbook went into
sleep mode at lunch I started having problems.

The network systray icon showed as "Connected: Local Only" with all green
bars lit.
The Network Centershows a connection to the wireless AP then a red X to the
enternet.

Clicking "Diagnose Internet Connection" proves to be worthless (tells me to
move closer to the access point) A XP laptop nect to the Vista laptop
connects fine. (no more than 10 feet from the AP)

The IP that it has is 169.254.231.141 and it should be 192.168.1.XXX

Please help if anyone has any ideas. Thanks

P.S. What the heck happened to "Repair" when you right click a connection?
I want it back!

When is a fix for the Vista wireless Internet problems going to be issued?!
If you're not familiar with it, when your wireless computer (any model/make)
goes into sleep or hibernate mode, the only way to regain your wireless
connection after coming out of one of these modes is to reboot or restart.
None of the temporary fixes offered (on this site and others) have worked!
Why are the people at Microsoft ignoring this ANNOYING issue?!!!!

Coachdvc,

I'm sorry you're experiencing trouble. Actually, it's because of the posts
on this newsgroup that this issue is bugged up and is under investigation.

Like Coachdvc I have been experiencing the SAME problem and its making me
furious - any idea on an update? John Lewis said they would be happy to take
a look at it / send it away but it appears to be a microsoft problem rather
than an HP computer problem.

Please make sure you have the latest wireless drivers.
This often helps.

I have the same problem. When the computer wakes up (if it does not hang,
and that is another problem), Windows does not detect any wireless networks.
It is not a driver problem, it is a Windows Vista problem. A computer
sitting side by side with this one has XP installed and it never loses the
wireless signal. Don't hold you breath waiting for a fix from Microsoft.

The sleep and/or hibernate mode is completely bugged, when I turn m
laptop into sleep mode, there is no way but pushing the restart butto
to awake it..

Take a look at the following and see if it helps:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929734/en-us

While I can't find it at the moment, there is also a released version of
this hotfix that addresses the same issue.
