wmp v XP professional

Hi
Can anyone help me please. I am running windows XP
professional and windows media player 9 series. Whenever
I try to play a movie or any type of vidio clip, the
whole computer freezes up completely. I have updated
drivers from microsoft to see if that helped, but nothing
seems to help. Is anyone else having this problem or can
anyone help pleaseeeeeeeee
