WMV-HD (High Definition)

Here's a copy of a new tip that I just added to the ongoing list at the
SimplyDV.com forum:

The first of the new dual disc packs are out, with a standard DVD on one and
WMV-HD (High Definition) files on the other. I have 11 of the sets so far,
most of which were originally made to play in iMAX theatres. Most of the
WMV-HD discs have two versions of the main feature, one 720p and the other
1080p (read like 720 and 1080 horizontal lines of resolution - progressive
mode). They are 2-1/2 and 6 times the quality level of standard DVDs, but
only playable on computers.

Beyond studying the files, I added a new branch to the main menu of my
website. It's the WMV-HD one.

And to get the subject started off in the right direction with Movie Maker
2, I developed two custom profiles that emulate the 720p and 1080p file
settings. They are on the website and downloadable via the links on the
Intro page of the new section. Use them like you do other custom profiles.

For the lower quality one, I used settings of 1280x720 video size with a
total bit rate of 6,393 Kbps.

The higher quality one is 1440x1080 video size with a total bit rate of
8,393 Kbps.

I've tested both. They render and playback fine. Smooth playback of the
lower quality one needs a 2.4 GHz CPU. The higher quality one needs 3.0 GHz.

Unfortunately, in the audio area, rendering with Movie Maker 2 is limited to
stereo, so I can't include 6 channel surround sound. You'll have to settle
for CD quality stereo.
