Won't make clips in captured DV-AVI file

Posted: 03-13-2006, 03:03 PM
Hello!

I captured video from a Sony digital camcorder, once in WMV and once in
DV-AVI. MM created clips from the WMV file but won't from the DV-AVI file.

Does anyone know what I can do about that?

Thanks very much,

-Mike

I have a section about how Movie Maker does its auto clip detection on the
Import Movie Source Files > Video > Intro page of my website...

Papa-

Thanks!

After checking your site, it looks like I won't be able to create clips in
AVI if not done automatically during capture or through the "Create Clips"
function, right?

So, if I convert my AVI file to WMV am I more likely to have it create clips
automatically? Can I convert the DV-AVI file to WMV without losing file
quality? If so, can tell me (or direct me to a site which would tell me) how
to do that?

My lower-quality WMV file capture was very easy to work with but of such
poor quality the file was unusable. If I can convert the AVI file without
losing quality, and have it creat clips, I guess that would be a good
solution.

Thanks again for all your help and kindness,

-Mike

I'd experiment a bit...

If you're capturing via firewire from a digital camcorder, it'll be looking
at breaks in time code, and sometimes not picking up on them...

You have an option to use the WinDV utility. You can tweak it's settings to
capture as one file or as lots of individual ones. There's a link to get it
on my Setup Movie Maker > Other Software page.
