Word insists on changing my text!

Hi Jim,

Re turning this off, under Tools | AutoCorrect, have you unchecked most of
the stuff in the AutoFormat As You Type pane? I think Word is applying an
automatic bulleted list. (Study that entire AutoCorrect dialog, many of the
AutoFormat options need to be unchecked but the AutoCorrect and AutoText can
be very useful).

- Paragraph numbering", Suzanne Barnhill posted this answer to someone who
did want Word to insert the Q and A automatically (Word is trying to help
you out, but uses "R"eply instead of "A"nswer).

"Yes. Create two paragraph styles, Question and Answer. In the Question
style, select Format | Numbering: Bulleted, and add the letter Q as a bullet
(this will be easier if you base the style on List Bullet). In the answer
style, use A for the bullet. In the Question style, set Answer as the "Style
for following paragraph" and vice versa. If answers sometimes exceed one
paragraph, you'll want an Answer Continue style that is indented but without
a bullet (you could base this on the List Continue style); assign a keyboard
shortcut to that style so that you can select it instead of Question when
you want to continue the answer.

Which version of Word do you use?

I don't know about a "tab+backspace sets indent" setting, but I guess
that you should uncheck the options for automatic numbered lists. In
Word X this option is under the "autoformat as you type" tab under
autocorrect of the tools menu.
