WordPad in German

Posted: 10-21-2003, 06:20 PM
Whenever I use WordPad, parts of the program (error
messages, buttons in sub-windows, etc.) are in German
rather than English. This only happens in WordPad (not
Office or Notepad). Is there a way to correct this?

Set Folder Options> View to show all files and to show system protected
files. Then use Search to locate the file mfc42loc.dll. If found, check its
properties.

This file tells mfc42.dll what language to use in some dialog and menu
boxes. Installing a program that comes in multiple languages (or installing
an update that is not the same language as the operating system) will
occasionally drop a copy of this file that does not match the user's
language settings. Renaming or deleting the file allows Windows to use your
language settings instead the language noted by the file.

NOTE: My XP installation is over 2 years old and I do not have any copies
of the mfc42loc.dll file on my system. The file is not necessary for
Windows to run properly. Do NOT rename or move the mfc42.dll
file. That is a normal Windows file and should be left alone.

As said by Sharon, look for the file mfc42loc.dll.

Look in C:\Windows\System32 folder and rename this file.
