Default (Work-around) Cannot normally logoff, reboot, or shutdown remotely with ATI Radeon driver

Greetings,

I have figured out a work-around for a problem I have been having. I
cannot normally logoff, reboot, or shutdown remotely with ATI Radeon
driver. Seems others have been having it too. Such as:

http://groups.google.com/groups?selm...gl2u%404ax.com

http://groups.google.com/groups?selm...TNGP10.phx.gbl

Attempting to normally logoff, reboot, or shutdown causes the
following entry into the system log:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: USER32
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1073
Date: x/xx/xxxx
Time: xx:xx:xx
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: %SYSTEMNAME%
Descriptions:
The attempt to unknown %SYSTEMNAME% failed
or
The attempt to reboot %SYSTEMNAME% failed
or
The attempt to shutdown %SYSTEMNAME% failed

3 DIFFERENT WORKAROUNDS (all require Administrator privilege):
================================================== ===========

1. Before attempting to shutdown, look for a process called
ATIEVXX.EXE running in the tasklist and end the process using Task
Manager or TASKKILL.

2. Roll back your video driver to 6.13.10.6153, as this is reported
to correctly allow logoff when version 6.14.10.6368 did not.

3. From a command prompt, use the force option with the SHUTDOWN
command. For example, type "shutdown -r -t 15 -f" (the -r is reboot,
the -t gives you a 15 second window to exit your programs gracefully
because..., the -f forces closed any processes that won't close
gracefully).

Note: There probably is a login script that could automatically shut
this driver when someone connects remotely and then turns the driver
back on when someone logs off remotely. I haven't tried. The real
solution is to get ATI to fix their video driver.
