Working with offline files

We had multiple Dell PC's with XP and recently I was assigned one of the other PC's. IT has never worked relaibly with offline files. Everytime I disconnect from the network, the files are inaccessible. It appears I am doing nothing different from my other PC, but I am getting different results. When I click on the shortcut for a directory on my desktop is shows I get a dialog box saying the shrotcut is unavailable, and if I go to the offline files is shows the files but when I clck on the file the application (Word, Excel) launches and then it fails to retrieve the file.

Idea

My advice - ditch offline files. I can't stand it -I've had too many
problems with lost connections and lost data. See if www.centered.com -
SecondCopy 2000 - it is SO much better.

Thank you I will try that

You're welcome - and note, I have no affiliation w/that company. I just like
their stuff. They have a fully functional 30 day eval.

I have set my latop up to synchronise files from a network.
I can use these synchronised files while online.
However when the network connection is remove the programs are unable to
recognise the file types or names.

I set up the synchronising as per the WIN XP help files.

Have I missed something in my set-up?

Could you be a bit more specific? What files are you trying to open and what
happens when you try? Are the files actually synchronised?
