working on networks to share collections

Posted: 10-14-2003, 02:08 PM
I'm working at a middle school to create videos as an
enrichment project. Is there a way to save collections so
that they can be accessed by other computers on the
network. I can share projects but without the collection
it can't be viewed on the other computer (at least as far
as I've experienced). Any suggestions?

Hi there,

You are asking in the wrong newsgroup really, but, you should ask your
network administrator to create a common drive (Its actually a directory on
one machine). Each machine on the network will then have access to that
common drive. The only issue that will definitely arise is file
sharing....MM2 is not as far as I know network aware, so you will have to
make the common directory/drive read only for all of the machines except
for the one you use to administer the directory...hope that makes sense

You can copy a collection database to each of the computers that you want
to. I copy mine between computers.

See the Managing... Collections page or www.papajohn.org for some info about
the file name and location. You would have to name the collection database
with the same numeric suffix as it currently has on each computer.

It would work fine if you just want to roll out a collection occasionally.
And you have the source files in the same place - mapped for all to align
with the info in the collection database.

In order to pre-view project files in MM2 like this the
source video files would need to exist on a network share.

I think you're better bet for sharing is to "Save Movie
File" to "My Computer" and then copy the published WMV
file to a network location.

Then others can view the created files using Windows
Media Player
