workstation and server services causing disk activity every second

Posted: 07-02-2003, 01:30 AM
The hard drive on my XP Home SP1a laptop is briefly
accessed every second, preventing it from powering down.
According to the Processes tab of the Task Manager, the
process that is causing the disk I/O is lsass.exe.
Through some experimentation, I have found that disabling
both the Workstation and Server services stops the disk
access, but then I loose file and printer sharing. Does
anyone have any idea how I can stop this disk access so
that my hard drive can spin down and I can get better
battery life while maintaining network connectivity?
