File sharing or printer sharing is a server service. It depends upon the "File
and Printer Sharing For Microsoft Networking" network component. See my
tutorial.

Workstation Service
Posted: 12-01-2007, 09:51 PM

Is there a resolution for the problem of the Workstation Servic
freezing on startup for around 30 seconds upon bootup? I've seen man
posts regarding this, but most never ever receive a reply. I've bee
searching for a resolution to this problem for weeks now, and I have ye
to find any real information

With this service automatically started at bootup, there is around
thirty second lag between when Vista's desktop appear and the networkin
components finally finish booting. I can open Firefox during this tim
and browse the internet, so the wireless connection is made, but
cannot access any of the network windows, and all of the startu
programs are frozen during this time (including virus scan). Like ha
been mentioned in other threads, the culprit is the Workstation Service
With it disabled on boot, this lag is not there. This is not
solution, though, as I access network shares, and for some reason Visua
Studio 2008 needs this service for debugging

The lag is present even when my virus scan software is set to not loa
on startup, and turning off File and Print Sharing has no effect.
also disabled all of the network topology services for all networ
adapters with no effect

Is there a fix for this? Anything in the upcoming SP1

I would like to know a solution as well...been looking everywhere for
weeks.

I have NOD32 v3 installed also by the way, as I think there may be a
conflict between the workstation service and something that NOD32 uses
to boot up.

I have tried disabling the workstation service and there is no delay,
once i enable the service again, the delay is back.
