WriteFilter is disabled when PnP is disabled

Posted: 10-24-2003, 09:53 PM
I'm running XPe Sp1 on a Wyse 9455 thin client. I would
like to disable Plug and Play (PNP) for security reasons,
However I have discovered that Plug and Play (PNP) needs
to be enabled on on the XPe device in order to use Write
filter to ensure changes are saved.

What this means is if PNP is not enabled you WILL NOT be
able to push any changes or images to a XPe device
because write filter gets disabled.

Has anyone else ran into this problem and solved it?

Thanks

bernie ,

We had looked upon your problem much in depth nd came to understand
the common resources that are used by both.We understand the necessity
of only the smart card combo key board should work and others not to
right ? However if your necessity is only that then y dont you go for
a work around of stopping any USB driver installations.
You may either remove the setupapi.dll from the system32 folder .This
should solve your purpose for Wyse series if you want to secure only
the user mode.rather else you might need to facilitate your task with
writing customised code to serve your purpose.
