wrong driver for firewire card / OHCI COMPLIANT IEEE 1394 host controller

Posted: 02-18-2004, 03:56 AM
XP professional seems to think i have the wrong driver installed for a new firewire card. The manufacturer's literature says I should need no drivers since the card "Is compliant to IEEE 1394 OpenHCI specifications and compatible with microsoft OHCI, DV, and SB-2 driver in Windows XP". the Manufacturer says to follow OS instructions for installing the driver. Problem is I cannot for the life of me find MS instructions for installing or re- installing the OHCI, DV, and SB-2 driver. I have installed direct x9 in a vain attempt to address this.

My ultimate goal is to be able to use the new card for video capture but I am having no luck even getting windows to see my video camera.

Does your new card have both USB and firewire ports? If so, are you sure
you are using the firewire port.

Right Click on My Computer and select Properties and then the Hardware tab.
Click on Device Manager. Find your firewire card on the list. Right click
on it and select Properties. Do the properties indicate that the device is
working normally. If so, you have drivers installed. If not, go to the
Driver tab and try to update driver or use the Trouble shooting option on
the General tab.

For Windows to see your camera {assuming that the firewire card is working},
I think that you must have software installed. Did you receive Windows XP
compatible software with your video camera? My computer came with Giga
Pocket for working with such devices.

Don, No there is no associated USB device. My existing USB ports are all up an working fine. The Firewre device however says "This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12
If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system
Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.
When I click the trouble shooter it tells me to uninstall and re-install the device which I have done now several times.

Could this be an IRQ problem

It's worth a try: Shut down. Remove and reseat the card, making sure is
properly seated. If still not detected, Remove the firewire card in
device manager. Reboot and see it XP redetects and installs a driver.

You might try running from a command prompt: sfc /scannow . SFC will
check each system file for corruption and replace it if necessary.
Additional info can be gotten from the System Information tool in
Accessories \ System Tools. It provides a wealth of information on the
hardware, conflicts, etc. that might offer some clue.

Alas, the card might be doa also.
