Wrong IP address

I switched from a cable modem to a dsl modem. With my
laptop I can connect with no problem. When I plug my
desktop in it does not recognize the modem. When I use
ipconfig it shows the wrong ip address. I had this happen
about a year ago and the fix was to issue a command in a
dos box that cleared something out so that the dhcp could
register the correct address. Any help would be helpful.

Are you using a network or USB modem?
