XP and Graphics cards

I want to install a graphics card and XP on my computer.
Which would be best to install first?

What is current configuration regarding graphics, what are
the system specs?

What graphics card and OS are presently installed?

I don't think it matters unless XP doesn't support your old graphics card.
If it does I would install XP first.

I would install the card first, so that your new install of XP does
not install your old graphics set up, which you will then have to
uninstall to install your new card. (and just might leave little bits
of the old set up as well)

If you are going to install XP, please do so as a fresh install, and
not an "upgrade"... Backup whatever you want to keep from your present
set-up, and install your XP clean.. You will be happier in the long
run.

If you are switching over from an "intergrated" graphics card, make
sure you disable your onboard graphics in the computers BIOS, before
you install the card, or you will have problems. Some BIOS also have a
switch for AGP and PCI graphics, make sure to set that switch
correctly for your new card.

I would install XP first. XP will need different drivers than (presumably) Win 9x/Me anyway, so it's
pointless to install them and then upgrade, since you'll just have to install new ones.

1) Choose a video card based on ATI or nVidia.

2) Install Windows XP

3) Activate XP Firewall

4) Install SP1(a) if needed

5) Install latest motherbaord chipset drivers

6) Install latest video card drivers

7) Install Windows Updates

8) Install all your other softwares.
