xp as a tcp/ip-based print server?

I have a lab with a lot of mac/unix/pc computers. I'd like
to hang a printer off the usb port on my Windows XP
computer and have all of the other computers print to it
using TCP/IP protocol. Can XP configured to serve as a
TCP/IP-based print server to a USB-connected printer?

Absolutely. Install Print Services for UNIX. The service is not set to
automatically start on boot on Home and Pro so you will need to change this
in Admin tools Services. Once you have the service running use LPR on the
unix systems to connect to the printer. On PCs running XP or Win2k you can
target the printer using the Standard TCP/IP Port configured in LPR mode
with the queue name = printersharename and Byte count enabled.
