Copying files to an XP computer takes forever regardless
of the type of server. XP Networking is worse than
intermittent. It Bites! Can you say BUG City! These are
brand new 2.2GHZ 1GB Ram Laptops. They are supposed to
work right out of the box. I've tried everything:
XP Service Pack 1a (which DESTROYED my laptop, thank God
it uninstalled fine.)
xp->xp file copying,
w2000->xp file copying,
Disable all firewalls that come with xp,
Networking Wizard (ha! ha!)
Installed up-to-date drivers for IntelPro/100VE
TCP/IP,
NWLink NetBios & NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS,
Bridge,
No Bridge
The fact of the matter is XP is capable of fast transfers,
because I have achieved them. Unfortunately, it forgets
how to be fast each time computer is shutdown, or for no
reason at all. The maximum time it has been up to speed
is probably 5 or 10 minutes before going into "I'M
DROWNING MODE."
As of now, the only way I can get it to be fast is to run
the "Networking Wizard" 3 or 4 times after each boot.
Eventually it goes to speed. I have seen tons of postings
on DEJA.com regarding PHONOMINALLY SLOW browsing and file
copying on XP, but no REAL answers as to why or how to fix
the problem.
I hope you can help fix this aweful operating system
dilemma.
