XP cant find network printer

Posted: 02-10-2004, 10:03 PM
Hi
I have an aficio350 printer on my network , it has its own network card.
With win98 I had to run a small .exe file to install the tcpip printing
port. I am installing the printer on XP I config it to use another port with
the ip address 192.168.10.100 ( the printer ip address) but nothing prints.
Is there something I am not doing .How exactly do I do this with XP.
I can ping it in Dos. We use a workgroup , no dns server with static
addresses. I can see all other printer connected to the other other machines
but not the stand alone printer

Thanks

Use the Add Printer Wizard, ensure you have the box checked for adding a
network printer and when it asks for the location, either browse for it or
type in the TCP/IP address.

I have tried this , it gives me an option to Name it ( \\server\printer )
which I cant as its stand alone or URL but when I type in the IP address
192.168.10.100 it says windows cannot connect to the printer.. I can ping
the printer. And access all other PC's over the network.

Hi Leon,

Try installing the drivers as if this printer was a local printer
on LPT1.

Then 'right click' that printer and click 'Properties'.

Click the 'Ports' tab on the top of the page. It should show LPT1
as the selected port with a check in the box.

Click on the 'Add Port' button and then highlight 'Standard
TCP/IP Port', and clcik the 'New Port' button.

Fill in the proper information for the TCP/IP address. When you
are done with the wizard, close up the windows.

Try printing a test page. It should work.

Good luck, and HTH.

Ron
