XP - CD-ROM Headset

Posted: 07-10-2003, 08:48 PM
Hi!

I'd like to use my headset to hear music from the CD-ROM.
Which Programm or lib can I use for this purpose? As I've
been told it is not possible to use the headset with XP.
Is this correct?

Thanks

Ralf

XP - CD-ROM headset
Posted: 07-11-2003, 12:23 AM
Hi!

With XP it is not necessary to connect the CD-ROM and the
soundcard through a soundcabel anymore. For that it seems
to be not possible anymore to get any output from the
headset jack at the front panel of the CD-ROM.

I need the music coming out of this jack and it should not
be directed to the soundcard because it is used for
another performance.

Does anyone know a possibility to get the sound out to the
headset? And how can I cut off the connection to the
soundcard?

Thanks a lot

Ralf

Hi Ralf,

Thank you for the posting. As you indicated you want touse your headset to
hear music from the CD-ROM.

You can do so in XP just as in the previous operating system.

To adjust the sound and volume settings, please go to Control Panel, Sound
and Audio Devices

Hope this helps and answers your question. If anything is unclear, please
let me know.

Sincerely,

XP - CD-ROM headset

Hi!

As there seems to be no solution we switched back to W2K.

The problem is that the showstations have to play a video
performance through one soundcard and in this version of
the station the music has to come over the headsets of the
CD-ROMs.

Does anybody know about a sample how to direct sound from
different sources to different soundcards?

I would apreciate any help

Ralf

It is possible, provided you have the drive set to use Analog access.
You would then need a cable from it to the sound card to take the analog
signal along, You change the setting in Control Panel - System -
Hardware - Device Manager, locate and double click the drive, and on
Properties uncheck 'Enable Digital Audio'

You will then be able to play the disks through any CD play program
including Media player (but note that the Media Player equaliser and
effects will not work, because the signal is no longer going through the
machine)

Hi Ralf,

Thank you for your message. Here are the considerations to use headset to
hear music from the CD-ROM.

Step one: Adjust your speaker settings
-------------------------------

Go to Control Panel, Sound and Audio Device, and then you can adjust your
speaker settings.

Step two: Disable Digital Audio
---------------------------------------------

It is possible, provided you have the drive set to use Analog access. You
would then need a cable from it to the sound card to take the analog signal
along, You change the setting in Control Panel - System -Hardware -
Device Manager, locate and double click the drive, and on Properties
uncheck 'Enable Digital Audio'
You will then be able to play the disks through any CD play program
including Media player (but note that the Media Player visualization will
not work, because the signal is no longer going through the machine)

Hope the above information and suggestion helps and answers your question.
If anything is unclear, please let me know.

Sincerely,
