XP Certified Canon Camcorder Not Installed

Posted: 07-16-2003, 06:19 PM
This is a follow-up to a problem I called in to Dell Technical Support
7-15-03. This was a failure to recognize an XP certified DV camcorder
connected to Firewire. Instead of doing what it should, XP tries to install
an "AV/C Subunit" and stops there.

I also called Canon Technical Support and they were less than helpful.

A search of newsgroups on Google revealed several people who experienced the
exact problem, including one person with a Dell 8250.

The cure is to perform a refreshing installation of XP. After that, my Canon
ZR30MC DV camcorder was immediately recognized and installed by XP, and it
worked as expected in my video editing application.

I'm not sure what had been corrupted in my original Dell installed XP Pro. I
have installed dozens of applications for video, sound and photographic
editing, as well as some standard office applications. I've also installed
some new hardware ( video card, DVD-RW burner ). I have been generally
pleased with the performance of this Dell 650.

Bye.
