XP Classic Theme (..slow..)

Posted: 12-20-2003, 08:16 PM
I have disabled the Themes service in XP, as I want to try and stick with
the classic theme in XP. But compared with Windows 2000, this theme itself
is very slow.
By slow, I find the user interface in XP very "gummy". There is clearly a
difference from the 2000 feel, and I don't like it! All I want is a BASIC
(and efficient) UI.

Can anybody suggest something, short of downgrading back to 2000? Any futher
views on the subject..?

Thanks

1. Re-enable the Themes service.

2. Select the classic theme, in both Control Panel "Display Properties" (/Themes\ and /Appearance\), and "Start Menu Properties".

3. In Control Panel "System"
/Advanced\
Performance-[Settings]
/Visual Effects\
(*) Custom
Clear the tick-mark from every check-box

4. Disable the Themes service.

The preceding steps allowed my GUI to be less "gummy" after installing SP-1.
It also dramatically improved the appearance of my On-Screen Keyboard.

OK thanks, but I know and have done that all b4.

Still it's not the same..

has anybody actually tried something different, such as perhaps replacing a
few system files from 2K files?
