"XP" does not read "Me" CD's on CD-RW Drive

I recently upgraded to XP. Trying to access two different
CD's with pictures and documents, the response was that
the CD was blank. 0 bytes used, full CD available. A
friend that still has Me tried to access the CD's and was
successful. Why can't I access the data with XP?

Is it possible that the CDs were made using DirectCD or some sort of Packet
Writing software? If so, you will need to install that software to read the CD
or convert the CD to a standard CD using that software on another CD. Natively,
Windows XP does not have the ability to read a CD made with Packet Writing
software, which mounts the CD like a slow hard drive. It's possible that the
friend has Easy CD Creator installed and this typically installs and loads
DirectCD at the same time.

If the CD's were made in UDF mode, such as DirectCD or InCD, you need a
compatible reader. Check with Roxio, Adaptec, or Nero for a free reader.
However, be awrned that there are multiple version of UDF and some of the
older versions are no longer compatible with the modern readers.

If possible, re-write the CDs using Joliet format. That should be readable
on essentially any PC, without a special reader program.

Finally, if all else fails, download a free copy of ISOBUSTER, whihc can
often read CDs that show as blank in windows explorer.
