XP doesn't see my pics on camera!

Posted: 06-24-2005, 04:25 PM
Hi! I need some help. Previously I could retrieve pics from my camera
without a problem. Now its a different story. XP Pro sees the drive but
does not see the pics inside the camera. Once the camera is hooked up to the
USB port detection is right away, autorun appears to be shorter than usual
and the window that says what program to use to view the pics doesn't appear
either. I have redone the camera's software and reinstalled the drivers.
Still no luck. Can someone help me out?

Dana,
What do you use to view your pictures? If it's the fax & pictur
viewer, try opening the files from there. (open application, search fo
photos)
If you don't have an image viewer application other than the fax
picture viewer, here is a link to a free one that many folks like;
'IrfanView' (http://www.irfanview.com/)

Hi Treeman,
Irfanview is what I prefer to use. I have XP Home at the house and XP Pro
here at work. At home I have no problem with seeing the pic files on my
camera with Irfanview. But something here at work has changed or something.
I hook my camera up, it creates a new drive but I can see the files in the
camera when I use Irfan, Exif or FinePix viewers. Any ideas what is wrong.
FujiFilm says they have been getting a lot of calls about this but says its a
Windows problem. Got any ideas for me?

Hello,

So it sounds like you can see the files on the camera in Windows, it's just
that you never get the Autorun dialog. Is that correct? If so, you should
verify your Autorun settings are correct for the camera. The following KB
article may help to get you into your Autorun settings.
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;888022
Once you do that, if you still don't get the Autorun dialog when attaching
the camera, go to My Computer and open the removable media drive on the
camera and see if you can access the pictures that way.

Let us know how that goes.

Thanks,
Gregg Rivers [MSFT]

"But something here at work has changed or something."
Bring doughnuts in for IT person at work. (Krispy Kreme works best)
Explain to him/her the problem.
It will be fixed shortly.

Hi Gregg,
I went to the support site and that didn't help me. It says to go to
start then My Computer then Removable Storage Devices. My Start doesn't show
My Computer. My Computer is a desktop icon. When I clicked My Computer
Removable Storage Devices wasn't displayed. I did find an Autoplay tab when
I referenced the G drive which is what XP assign to the camera when it is
hooked up. I suggested that it use a viewer to see the pics but that didn't
work either. Usually what happens on my other computer is that I can see the
new drive. When I click on it a folder will appear. When I open the folder
I can then see my pictures inside the camera. All I get now is the new drive
designation and the name of the camera in front of the new drive. When I try
to access the drive it tells me to insert a disk. Any new ideas how I can
fix this?

Thanks, Dana

Hi Dana,

Can you tell me what was installed or done with the computer before this
stopped working? Also, what model of camera do you have? The fact that you
can't even access the removable device tells me that it's probably a driver
problem. Once we get the system to recognize the camera, hopefully other
things (like Autorun) will just work.
A quick glance at the Fuji website shows some possibilities although I'm not
sure which apply since I don't know what model camera you have. Could be a
driver problem, even though you mentioned you reinstalled, it could be that
you need the newest driver/viewer software. Check out
http://www.fujifilm.com/JSP/fuji/epa...upportHome.jsp.
