XP dosen't recognise my DCR

Posted: 05-18-2006, 03:37 PM
Try to capture video with Win Movie Maker. Only once did Movie Maker capture
video from my Sony DCR TRV 720. Also when Using "Add New Hardware" the
camera is not found.
Connection: Using a iLink(firewire?) cable between the camera and Toshiba
Satellite A75-S229.
OS Win XP Home Edition, SP2
No Sony Software installed, none on hand or able to locate
The camera is turned on(power) and connected

All assistance greatly appreciated

Hi
"Add new hardware" won't install the cam.
So it was recognised once by XP/Win Movie maker?
The obvious stuff first, you do have the cam set to playback -
with Sony's it is sometimes marked as VTR or VCR?
And connected to it's power supply?
Sony have marketed seemingly zillions of versions of
DV cam's over the years, "DV-IN/DV-OUT" seems to be
the inconsistent factor. It's usually located by rummaging
around the "menu's" but ensure "DV-Out" is enabled.
Next check device manager for any problems with your
firewire card.

According to reviews, your camcorder uses the same codec as a DV
machine, and should be recognized by the computer. Could be the
IEEE1394 cable or connection in the PC. The best way to determine the
fault is to try your camera in some other computer, or try a DV
camcorder in your setup.
