XP drivers

There is a reason they are not included in Vista by MS. Vista won't allow
installation of them in may cases whereby users try this XP compaitbility
mode thing they've read about to install software. The drivers are
compaitible with XP but this is not XP. This is also Windows v6, XP is not,
much like Me was not v5.1 and Me drivers would not work well or at all in
XP. Compatibility mode should not be used for drivers unless you like to
pray then be disappointed and format hard drives.

I haven't had to format a hard drive or reinstall Vista due
to using compatibility mode. In fact, I am using several
programs that way. Yes, it may cause problems for some
and it may not work for others. Of course, compatibility mode
should only be used as a last resort. But, a format? Possible,
but unlikely.

You're talking about using programs in compatibility mode, which is what it
was designed for. The OP was talking about people who try to install XP
drivers in Vista using compatibility mode. They might install, but it's not
going to be particularly stable. And if the driver is for a critical piece
of hardware, it could get you to a point where there's no sane way to
recover.

Actually, I have done both. Mostly, you are correct- I use it for
some programs. However, I have used XP drivers for my soundcard
and my USB wireless network adaptor. My sound works great. I
tried many things to get it to work, the XP drivers finally did the trick.
At times, my USB wireless network adaptor seems flakey. But, is that
because USB in Vista has some issues or the XP driver? Perhaps,
a combination of both. The OP made it sound matter of fact that
using XP drivers would cause you to have to reformat. Yes, I
suppose that's possible. But, it's also possible that the XP drivers
will be the solution to some problems.

I defy you to show "matter of fact." I'm seeing some busted systems becuase
of the drivers installed in compatibility mode. Pointing out a worse case
scenario that can happen and likely to happen. Trying to help people who do
not understand the ramifications of using XP Compatibility. That's what I
do here and I don't criticize, make assumptions or flame.

"Compatibility mode should not be used for drivers unless you like to pray then be
disappointed and format hard drives."

That sounds rather definitive and one-sided.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with letting
users know of all the options. You stated
your observation about possible ramifications
when using XP drivers. I stated my findings on
the positive results that can be had using XP
drivers. I do not doubt your observations,
only the scare tactics you used. Of course,
all other options should be tried before using
an XP driver and one should be prepared for
any outcome when you use an XP driver.

You offered worst case, I offered
best case.

If you consider my posts as flaming you-
then you need to grow some thicker skin.

Yeah, but it's still funny because overall it's so very very true ;-)
