XP Home Edition

Every time I start my computer, it will freeze up. Then
when I re-boot, it won't come on all the way - it hangs
with the black screen. I have to unplug it from the wall
and wait 30 minutes. What's going on? Is there a patch
that I need.

It sounds like you have an assortment of problems.

Startup problems can be due to a bad driver, a misconfigured system, a
misbehaving startup program or service. Troubleshooting startup problems is
very similar to troubleshooting shutdown problems. A good shutdown
reference site can be found here: http://www.aumha.org.

Also, you are having some luck taking the machine completely offline and
letting it set for a while. There could be a heat problem (machine cools
and then can start correctly) or a physical problem with some of your
hardware. May need a local shop to track this down by testing components
individually.

Running an xp home edition box with sp1 connect to another box that is Win2k
Pro via cross over cable. The Win2k box has Tcp/ip and netbeui, the xp box
has tcp/ip, they are using apipa because there is no dns server. Both boxes
are in the same workgroup. Here's my problem I can see the other machine
from either box but cannto connect. From the Win2k box when I browse then
double click on the XP box I get "network path not found". From the XP to
Win2k I get a permissions error and Network path cannot be found.
How can this possibly be so difficult?
I have disabled the XP firewall on the nic and on the Win2k box I have given
the everyone group full permission to the share.

message that pops-up as a MS1607. unable to install installshield scripting
runtime. Can someone help?

Do you have Norton's AV, Norton's Internet Security, or Norton's Personal
Firewall Installed? If so, you may be getting a conflict as these programs
attempt to block scripting (by default IIRC). Look through the carious
settings for these programs and you should be able to temporarily disable
script blocking and install your palm software - then just turn script
blocking back on.

Good Luck,

On my PC I have XP home edition. Recently (last week) I recently downloaded
all the new microsoft security patches. Since I installed, my frontpage 2002
won't connect to the server, my office jet printer will not work and I bought
Norton 2005 virus protector (system works) Norton will install everything but
the virus protector. I've tried every angle trying to get these programs
resolved. uninstalled so many times, gone through every program making sure
everything was removed, but nothing at this point works. I've run virus
checks and still nothing. Any ideas as to what I can do? This is crazy, I
have never had a problem until now and its effecting my small business.
Mybe I'm off base thinking its the newest patches, but I cannot understand
why after installing I can't get this resolved. And by the way my ucb port
that I have a mouse quit as well. I don't have gray hair, but I'm working on
it.

Have you tried to uninstall the hotfixes to see if thr problem goes away?
If it does reinstall them "one at a time" until you find out which one is
causing the troubles.
