XP Install Problem

Posted: 11-22-2003, 06:05 PM
I've installed XP before without problems, but this time,
It's not allowing F8 accepting the liscensing agreement!
I'm using a new USB keyboard, and can't figure this out!

When I've tried to install it over a fresh install
of '98, it says it can't because there's already an
operating system!

HELP!

Does the keyboard work at all? USB devices usually are not available
from plain DOS. You may want to use a PS2 keyboard for the time of the
installation process.

The keyboard is fine, on the same EULA age, I can pg up,
pg down or esc w/o problem. I've used the ps2 adapter
with no better luck!

Your other keys work but not F8? And on two keyboards? Do these keyboards
have an F-Lock key? On one of my keyboards, I have found that the F-Lock
key does not stay engaged before Windows is loaded completely. By holding
the F-Lock key down and pressing F8, I have managed to get the function
keys to be accepted as input.

XP Install problem

I am doing a clean install on a freshly formatted NTFS
partitioned IBM Thinkpad 390X notepad. I can't boot from a
CD. I get the above message on install after the floppy
setup finishes its thing. I have redownloaded and
reloaded my 6 floppys (setup disks) to no avail. In case
it was a download problem. It won't go any further than
the second screen. It says
"The following value in the .SIF file is corrupted
Value 0 on the line in section (SourceDisksFiles) with
key "SP1.cab""

Go into Bios and change your first boot drive to cd rom drive. Put your xp
disk in and re-boot. This will run the install for you cleanly. Once
installed dont forget to go back and change the first boot sequence back to
A drive.
Hope this helps
