xp mouse setting

using windows xp. No drivers came with the mouse and xp
had no problem recognizing it in the usb port. But when I
change the scroll wheel setting in xp's mouse driver (ie.
from 1 line to 3 lines) it keeps that setting while the
computer is on that day. Then the next time I boot up it
reverts back to the original setting (1 line). Any
ideas? Thanks!
