Hi,
My XP Pro machine is operating in a WIN XP Pro/WIN 2k peer-to-peer network with 15 other user machines (XP and Win 2k).
There are three printers in service in our network, and each has been setup using TCP/IP (each has its own IP address). All printers have been installed on each of the 16 workstations in our network as a "Local printer" with its own port and the "Do not share this printer" option has been selected during printer setup on each workstation.
I am not sure why, but previous tech support staff chose not to use one of the work stations as a print server.
As a result of this setup, each of the three printers is displayed multiple times in the list of available printers on each work station. e.g. on one work station we would see our HP 2100 as "Auto HP Laserjet 2100 on WORKSTATIONA", "Auto HP Laserjet 2100 on WORKSTATIONB", "Auto HP Laserjet 2100 on WORKSTATIONC", etc.. in the list of available printers.
Is it necessary to uninstall the printers from each workstation and setup a print server in order to avoid the auto-detection of the same printer x times over on each machine or can the auto detect be turned off?
