XP not recognizing legit drivers

Posted: 01-31-2004, 01:28 PM
Today I formatted my hard drive and reinstalled XP, and I'm having a
difficult time getting my Realmagic Hollywood Plus card working again. I
downloaded the latest drivers for XP from Sigma, but when I direct the new
hardware wizard to the folder where they reside (after it has recognized a
new 'multimedia device'), it says "cannot find the necessary software." I've
tried downloading them again, in case the unzip corrupted them or something,
but it doesn't help. I even tried downloading older drivers, and I got the
same result.
The weird thing is that these same drivers were installing fine on this
machine yesterday; any ideas why it's being so picky in this lovely, clean,
new installation?

Thanks,
Sarah

Sarah, rt click MyComputer>select Prop>Hardware>Device Manager. See it the
card is showing up there.
If it is trying upgrading the drivers from there.

Hi Rich, thanks for the reply.

The card showed up in device manager, but as a 'multimedia device' with a
yellow question mark next to it. And I got the same "can't find the
necessary software" when I tried to install the drivers from there.

I did sort of fix the problem, though. I thought I'd try putting the card in
a different PCI slot, and voila, this time XP accepted the drivers. I have
no idea why the first PCI slot wasn't good enough; it certainly works for my
ethernet card.

Thanks!
Sarah
