XP Printer / LPT1 Problem

XP was installed over Win98 on a Dell Dimension 400 but
can't print to Epson Action Laser 1500 which emulates HP
Laser Jet III/IIID. All the XP printer troubleshooting
helps were tried to no avail. Ping LPT1 and response
is "The system cannot find the file specified." Delete
and reinstall printers and drivers does nothing. No
driver updates found for Epson or HP printers. All this
was before going on-line and XP being infected with the
Blaster RPC worm (probably on my hard drive but not
activate under Win98). Blaster now removed but LPT1 port
still not found nor recognized by the XP Device Manager.
Could this be due to Blaster presence or is there a
reason XP doesn't recognize LPT1? Any ideas? - HK
