Default XP Resets network connections on shutdown

Every time I restart XP (no service pack1 due to driver
problems) it looses all the preset network connections and
I have to go through the network wizard to get any
connections. I have assigned an IP address and all
hardware is working but after each restart the IP address
is lost and no network exists. Any ideas?
