XP SP1 installed - now don't have sound

After installing WindowsXP SP1, I have absolutely no sound
whatsoever on my PC. I'm fairly proficient with computers
and have exhausted my ability to try and identify the
problem. Has anyone else experienced this same problem?

>my experience has been that after downloading series 9,
that this player plays, the equalizer graphics bounce
around, but i can't hear anything. the version of the old
player, run:mplayer, as well as other players(quictime
et. al) run fine. where are the support posts?
