XP SP3 windows search 4.0 - database space reclaimed ?

Posted: 01-25-2009, 07:33 PM
Hello - I was indexing too many locations - over 100,000 items.
I opened the indexing options in control panel and deselected many folders.
About 10 hours later, the amount of indexed items had reduced to 28,000 -

but the size of the database had only reduced from 500MB to 330 MB.
Is it possible that is the optimum size? or is there a bunch of slack
space in there ? Any optimization done beneath the covers?
Manual tools?
TIA for any info.
Dave
