XP Thinks "hurl" RealPlayer Music file is a MS DOS Program

Posted: 11-24-2005, 12:01 PM
I'm using a Toshiba laptop computer with Windows XP Home Edition. Unlike
other computers, I cannot run RealPlayer files from Amazon- The "Open" option
is disabled, and the only choice is "Save to Disk"... When I save to disk
and try to open it, a DOS window opens and "runtime errors" dialog appears.
(The file saves as "hurl.exe") The file properties indicate that it is a "MS
DOS" application.

- The version of Windows I have does not have an "Open With" option, and
when I tried RegEdit to create the option, attemtping to use it results in
"Access Denied".... (This is a secondary problem.)

Is there a way to change the properties of the "hurl" file from Amazon.com
RealPlayer file where I can open the file online? (The Windows Media Player
version of these files work fine.)

Response is appreciated.

I don't know which files in the Amazon rain forest :-) you mean.

I just picked two files arbitrarily. One did not reveal its format, and
played inside the browser (Firefox). The other was of extensions "m3u", on
my computer associated with Nero Showtime. It defaulted to "save as..", but
I could have opened it (which I did not).

This "hurl.exe" makes me suspicious of viruses and Trojans.

There is no such "animal" as hurl.exe in RealPlayer. You may have picked
up some adware/malware/spyware while on the Web or from someones
email. Suggest you run a scan with your anti-virus app and also:
Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition - Download Free version and Run It!

If no resove to your problem, contact Amazon Tech Support.
