ME is shit, period. Rather Win98 SE. I believe the reply to the original
message was speaking for the general public. I would love to see a program
that required ME to run better.

You cannot put a period on anything. I have a system that after upgrading to
XP, I returned it to Me; because Me was a better choice in the situation. I
would not recommend Me as a replacement for 98 SE, but when Me works, it is
a very viable choice. Most systems that shipped with Me, are usually
compatible with XP, but there will be a big financial hit to replace soft
and hard ware not compatible with XP.

I have a desktop with windows 98 that was becoming fairly unstable. A friend was supposed to reinstall 98 from restore disks. Instead he installed xp with the 30 day free trial. What's going to happen when 30 days expires & I haven't bought the xp update? Will system revert back to 98? Will it automatically uninstall xp? Thanks for any help!!

No, it won't revert to 98, and it won't uninstall itself.

It will stop and not let you boot up, other than in SafeMode.

Look in your Control Panel... if he chose the option to save the previous
O/S, there will be an option there to remove XP and return to 98.

If there is no option...... oh dear, you'll either have to purchase a
version of WindowsXP or format your hard drive and reinstall Windows98 from
scratch.

You cannot downgrade an operating system.

If he didn't choose the option to save the previous setup, he wasn't much of
a friend.

Where does one get a Windows XP 30 day trial?
