xp unstable

HELP!

I built this computer in July based on an asus p4p800
motherboard with an intel 2.8 gig p-4. The xp
professional os came as a "special offer" from newegg.com
at a diccounted price when I purchased the hardware for
this new system. Since "oem" is part of the serial number
microsoft tells me I have to go to the manufacturer (ME!)
for support.

Here's the bugs.

First, it has taken me 5 months to get this thing online.
(sucks when you want to design web pages)and it's still a
matter of trying every connection option the os has to
offer. It's not the modem, as this is the 4th on this
machine.

Second. This thing will not shut down! I have to reboot
(reset) every time before shutting down the system!

Third. "The program is not responding" is this machines
favorite phrase. Sometimes when I "end task" the son of a
gun still wont shut down.

Fourth. Debug log.log keeps popping up on shutdown

Fifth. When I have a critical error, I can't send the
error report because this thing wont find the dial up.

Any ideas will be geatly appreciated!
