Hi All,
I recently built out a new system using XP Pro and have an internal
6-in-1 flash card reader connected to the mobo's internal USB port. I
cannot find the mfg of the card reader, as the only labeling the drive has
on it is "USB-Card Reader" and a serial.
Everything worked fine initially, with all drive letters showing in windows
explorer, and I was able to read/write to my sd cards. XP went through the
motions and installed a bunch of updates, and I also popped in an external
usb wifi device.
Now, drive letters for the card reader still show in explorer, but the drive
does not read any flash cards when inserted. It just keeps showing "Please
insert a disk in to drive x".
*I uninstalled the card reader in device manager and let xp find it again
using "scan for hardware changes". XP found it / installed it and stated it
was working properly. Drive letters woul still show in explorer, but it
wouldn't read cards ("Please insert a...").
*I removed the usb wifi device, thinking it might be drawing too much usb
power and ran through the uninstall/install of the card reader again and got
the same results.
I searched the ms knowledgebase and could not find anything that applies to
this problem. I've tried multiple sd cards with the same results. XP says
the drive(s) are fine, but it won't respond to any cards.
XP Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 1 Build 2600
Bios: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG, 4/27/2004
What XP updates could have caused this malfunction, and how can I resolve
this?
