| My desktop computer is XP Home Edition it is connected to a Belkin wireless G router. I used to have a laptop that ran XP Home as well AND never had any wireless connection problems!!!!! I recently purchased a new laptop that has Vista on it. Now I have connection problems all the time, but only on the laptop: the connection is always weak, I often cannot connect and when I finally do get connected I cannot stay connected. It continuously drops and restarts the connection to the laptop. What is the problem? Are Vista and XP not compatiable? Do I need to buy Vista for the desktop? Do I need to buy a new router? Is there a patch or configuration that I am missing? I AM PULLING MY HAIR OUT TRYING TO FIGURE THIS OUT AND I AM NOT FEELING WARM AND FUZZY TOWARD VISTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!! | Guest

laptop and the router? My guess is the router. One of the problems with Vista is the lack of properly updated drivers for things like WiFi adapters. What make and model WiFi adapter does the laptop have? Did you check with the vendor for updated drivers? That's where you should start. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/dealing-with-physical-network-problems.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/0...-problems.html -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience. Is the desktop computer connected by Ethernet or by WiFi? <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/background-information-useful-in.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/0...useful-in.html This is a Vista discussion group. Do you want to discuss the desktop, or the laptop? How often does a drunk juggler drop his balls? How about a more objective analysis? <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/09/diagnosing-network-problems-using.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/0...ems-using.html -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience. You CAN start a copy? Does it actually START the copy then lose connection? <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2007/06/driver-problems-causing-intermittent.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2007/0...ermittent.html How do you get it to reconnect? Can you get the file to copy by reversing direction of the copy? Let's try diagnosing the problem. Install PingPlotter on both computers. Get PP pinging the router, from each computer. Start a copy of a file, and watch to see which computer loses connectivity. And leave PP running, and see how often it loses connectivity otherwise.
