Yamaha AC-XG driver on Toshiba 6100 running Windows 2003 Server

Posted: 07-07-2003, 09:57 AM
Hi,

I've got a Toshiba satellite pro 6100 Laptop. It has a Yamaha AC-XG
sound card.

The machine originally came with XP pro. The sound card worked.

Then I patched XP with SP1 - The card stopped working and required a
updated driver for it.

http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.c...uage=42.000000

However. I've installed windows 2003 server (evaluation) on the
machine and now its packed up again. It looks like Windows 2003
server already has the equivalent of XP SP1 included (Although My
Computer.. Properties... shows no patches) Since I went back to the
original driver 6.13.10.3145 and that displayed the typical 'this
driver doesn't work with windows etc.'

I've found no references to this problem with Windows 2003 server.
Don't suppose many people yet have had the chance to try it on their
Toshiba 6100 laptops?!

I'm going to let Yamaha know... This is their problem I guess.

Anyway if anyone finds anything please post here or let me know to
newsgroups@karlomeara.com

Regards

Karl

Use the WindowsXP driver at the Toshiba website.

Hi!

Thanks for that - unfortunately that doesn't work. I was a hopeful
because the link you gave me from from the US site not the UK and I
figured the US is normally more up on things than we are over here.
But its the sample driver version I downloaded before and it don't
work :-(

The strange thing is in Device Manager it all looks OK. No !
exclaimation marks or problem devices. Just when you attempt to make
a noise - eg Media Player it says 'No sound device'.

This is an excerpt from the help file included with the fix from
yamaha

.........New Yamaha AC-XG sound driver for Windows XP Service Pack 1 is
available.
The pre-installed Yamaha sound driver AC-XG will not run after
installing Service Pack 1.
On installation of Service Pack 1, the Service Pack installer returns
a message stating
that this driver is not complient for Windows XP Service Pack 1.

........

Detail:
-------
The pre-installed Yamaha driver AC-XG uses the "PortCls" function for
checking the operating system version.
In Windows XP Service Pack 1, the "PortCls" function has been modified
in design,
therefore the Yamaha driver can not identify the operating system
version correctly.
Microsoft added a workaround, which blocks the Yamaha driver for use
with SP1.

This new Yamaha Sound Driver can be installed before or after the
installation of Windows XP Service Pack 1.

Affected driver:
----------------
The version of the blocked Yamaha AG-XG driver is as follow;

- yacxg.sys 6.13.10.2000 to 6.13.10.2150 (with software synthesizer)

- yacxgc.sys 6.13.10.3000 to 6.13.10.3150 (without software
synthesizer)

Yamaha provides a fixed driver for its sound chip. The fixed driver
version is as follows;

- yacxg.sys 6.13.10.2152 (with software synthesizer)

- yacxgc.sys 6.13.10.3152 (without software synthesizer)

.................................

The toshiba download linked below currently gives the 6.13.10.3152
available for download which does not work with Windows 2003 server.

In the meanwhile I figured thats its not actually a Yamaha problem and
called Toshiba. The tech couldn't tell me whether a driver was
underdevelopment or what - it maybe that the current driver is just
unable to determine the OS-type (as above) so probably not such as
complicated fix.

I looked at the HCL on Microsofts site and as yet there is no
categorisation at all for Win2k3!

In the meantime I am now much more productive as I can't waste time
listening to MP3s...

Regards

Karl

I guess Toshiba will get around to it eventually..... there's not a lot of
folks running a Server O/S on a notebook, which is probably the biggest
problem!

Personally I find I'm more productive on the newsgroups when I have my
WindowsMediaPlayer running my Daily Playlist. It helps calm me down no end!
(frustrating day = loud rock!)

You do have the Audio Services running don't you? (Control Panel, Admin
Tools, Services, [walks to bedroom to Windows 2003 Server PC!) Component
Services, Windows Audio [set to Automatic]...?
