Yet another failed Fujitsu Hard Drive

Posted: 01-20-2004, 10:24 PM
My second Fujitsu hard drive in a year has just failed on me. This drive is
fairly old (6Gb) therefore not under warranty but I feel there is an issue
with Fujitsu hard drives which make them fail quicker than other brands.

Last year I had a 10Gb fujitsu hard drive, yet again not under warranty, and
yet again this failed on me (in a different machine).

I wrote to Fujitsu via the web site about the failed drives, but got the
following reply:

Dear Si,

As you have confirmed the hard drive is fault please may I ask you to
contact
your reseller to claim any replacement under the warranty terms/conditions
as
this is not dealt with by Fujitsu directly, I enclose our Warranty Policy
Document statement below for your information in a pdf format.

(See attached file: warranty image.pdf)

Andre Mxxxxxx
Hotline Technical Support
Fujitsu Europe Ltd.

As usual, warranty is valid for 1 year.

What would you recommend my next course of action is (apart from not buying
any more Fujitsu hard drives)?

Anyone else had issues with Fujitsu hard drives failing?

Regards,

Si.

Have you checked any user groups that may have an interest in those
drives?
2 drives does not mean there is a problem with the drives, especially
so far out of warranty.
It may be two for you, but what of all the others.
All hard drives eventually fail.
Lifespan is determined by many things, manufacturing is only one of
them, the rest are up to the user.
Environment, movement (shock) etc.

There is really nothing you can do since warranty is ended.
Even not buying that brand again is questionable unless you get some
better statistics.

Wonder what course of action he expects as an alternative on such old
drives?

Three years is about all you can expect from a HD. Some live longer, most
don't. Go buy a new HD, they don't cost all that much these days.

Hey Richard,

Do they even sell drives of that size anymore? I've thrown away larger ones.

Cheers, JAX
