glide.jpgGlide Effortless offers everything from photo and music sharing to e-mail, RSS, and video conferencing. All of that clubbed with the look and feel of a new-age operating system. Glide Effortless lets you organize documents, folders, music, videos, photos, and other files, and you can drag and drop items in real time. And you can also launch menus simply by mousing over the proper icon.

TransMedia, the creators of Glide effortless divide the application into nine different categories of functionality. They are, namely- Glide Personal, Photos, Music, Video, Docs, AllMedia, Contacts, MailShare, and LiveShare. Each of them dovetails seamlessly with the rest, and they often overlap to such a degree that calling them “separate” seems almost a misnomer.

Glide Personal acts as your desktop; each of the others simply handles the type of file designated by the application’s name. For example, Photos manages digital pictures, as you’d expect. Upload your files to the service using either a small downloadable local client or a tool built into the service itself. Glide is smart enough to sort them into the appropriate applications automatically.

You can use a dynamic menu that comes up when you mouse over an icon to visit apps. As you do, thumbnails of each uploaded file pop up across your browser window. Not only do you see thumbnails of text documents and spreadsheets, but the video thumbnails actually play, complete with sound and images et all. You can expand any file to full size with a click, and you can easily sort files into various containers - Glide’s version of Microsoft’s Windows folders. Containers are more than just a means of storing files. They’re also ways of building self-contained multimedia slide shows and play lists.

Since Glide is an online service, it also enables remote access to your data and the ability to share any of it easily. Even non-Glide users can tap into your data from an ordinary Web browser, and the privacy controls are wonderfully powerful. You have complete control over who can view and download your files, and if you like, you can lock individuals out entirely, preventing them from even contacting you.
