All day yesterday, we were pretty excited about the release of Chrome from Google. We will be comparing the performance and scalability of chrome with other browsers available today. We are so used to be using FireFox that we really didn’t seem to be requiring another browser.
Chrome is currently not available for Mac and Linux, but Google has promised to code for the latest Mac and Linux OS versions. There is no date about the launch and this suggests that this is going to take long time. For a number of reasons, much of the initial prototyping and design was done for Windows.
Why would anyone who is using Firefox, with so many handy plugins to which he is too used too would make a switch to Chrome? what is in it? why download it.. just because we love each product from Google? that is not an appropriate answer. Here are some points which may appeal you (as they did to us)
- Browser-based office environment is now a reality, as expected Chrome has that.
- Multiprocess architecture allows tab-independent browsing, that means if one tab crashes, others still function.
- Strong Privacy and protection with history options, Besides that you can browse in an Incognito window which will keep all information off your computer when you’re browsing something that you don’t want to appear in your history. Amazing Stuff!
- Tabs will appear on the top. Instead of tabs being displayed below your address bar, which are inside the browser - they’ll ride on top of each browser window.
- Quick navigation. Your most frequently visited pages will be available in a point and click navigation, Similar to Opera’s Quick Dial.
- Google Gears will be integrated throughout the experience for offline use.
- It’s built on Webkit, the browser framework which is used to build Safari and the iPhone. And this is totally OpenSource.
- Chrome has a smart Task manager which tracks everything that’s going on in Chrome and displays details about the CPU usage, per tab and amazingly also per plug-in.
- Includes rendering engine clocks stating the IE and Chrome load time on a particular web page.
Chrome looks promising to us, with the about initial features, we are sure that we will find plenty more other good reasons to try Chrome and use it daily. It is likely to include all state of the art details and several things that will ensure surfing on web a better experience.
We all love Firefox and Google and we certainly need to appreciate innovation, where it happens irrespective of that.
