Google finally gets AdSense.com

adsense-google.jpgAfter a long trail of Google questions, the owners of a Eugene, Oregon based company “AdSense Consulting” sold their domain to “someone other than Google”. After reviewing the situation, it appears they probably sold the domain to MarkMonitor.

MarkMonitor.com is hired by Google to manage their domain inventory, registering new domains for upcoming products and gaining possession of domains that are already taken. If the buyer was indeed MarkMonitor, Google very likely had something to do with the purchase (even though they turned down AdSense Consulting when they offered to sell).

Here is the recent history of AdSense.com:

- October 16, the owner was still AdSense Consulting
- October 23, the domain was transferred to MarkMonitor.com
- October 31, the domains registrant was set to “Trout & Zimmer”
- November 1, the domain was officially in the hands of Google

For more information about the relationship between AdSense Consulting and Google, read this article at Wired.

AdSense does not hold a federal trademark on its name, while Google does. Garrett did, however, register the name with the Oregon Secretary of State’s Office, which is required for Oregon businesses registered under names different from their owners
