Google’s Writely

Published in Internet, Software by Aditi Tuteja

Today I tried out the online word processor by Google. Google had acquired Writely from the start-up software developer in last March. writely.jpg

I thought of comparing the Writely and Microsoft’s beta of Live Writer, It is a lot different than the most of the Live features, it is a download you install application and not a web-based app, and it can be used for editing blog posts and not for other word processing options.

Writely works in FireFox: 1.0.5, Internet Explorer 6.0, and Mozilla: 1.5 or higher. Not on Opera and Safari
Writely is an AJAX-based app, which means it uses asynchronous JavaScript and the XMLHttpRequest object or an IFrame object to communicate with the server. Lots of new web-based apps are taking advantage of this combination of web standards to produce exciting new dynamic content in the Web 2.0 revolution.

More innovations like Writely are likely to come up.
