Pantech officially unveiled its Matrix Pro smartphone for AT&T which runs the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard edition operating system. Though it bears the name of the more recent Matrix feature phone, the Matrix Pro is very much the successor to the Pantech Duo that was launched in October of 2007.

Like all of its dual-slider handsets, the Matrix Pro slides up vertically to reveal a number keypad and horizontally to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard. The Matrix Pro is a tad flashier than its elder cousin, with a mirror-finish exterior and sleeker design. It also gets a full smartphone-class operating system and uses Windows Mobile 6.1 which provides support for full third-party apps and editing Office documents.
The Matrix Pro comes with prominent additions like a sharper 2-megapixel camera and data-assisted GPS mapping. More memory and a faster processor underneath also lets it handle more tasks even with the overhead of the new mobile OS. It continues to support 3G on AT&T’s network and has support for one-way Video Share calls as well as music and video streaming.
The phone will be available from AT&T at some points although there’s no official announcement regarding release dates and prices.
