Media Center PCs not pulling Buyers

Published in Hardware, Internet, Microsoft, Software by Aditi Tuteja

A research firm GfK has surveyed that the Sales of Media Centre PCs have failed to take off much based on the sales figures from market .

Media Centres accounted for just four per cent of total sales of desktop computers in the past one year, with 150,000 units representing £100m in sales.

GfK is heard to be blaming the high price of the machines and poor marketing for the failure of Media Centre PCs, the number of models inthe market have doubled to 150 in the past year, this has only led to a small increase in sales.

But GfK is indicating this growth in sales towards the retailers who discounted prices to below £600 in January to get rid of excess stock not sold over Christmas.

Prime reason for this is the non awareness among consumers, moreover they are still confused by the amount of functionality offered by Media Centre PCs.

Failure at this scale is due to High price accounting to poor sales. The average machine costs £233 more than a standard desktop PC at £690. Compared to a DVD recorder, a Media Centre PC is £515 more expensive. This needs serious repricing efforts!!

Right Promotion, Effective marketing is required in this case..Wonder Sales Figures.. wont come until consumers are aware of Media Center PC as they are for Ipods ;)
