Meow 104.8 FM : India’s First Talk Radio

Written on May 31, 2007 – 2:32 pm | by Aditi Tuteja |

meow.gifToo many radio channels just like too many TV channels…Radio channels are now coming up with different themes, seems they have identified their listener types.  Radio Today Broadcasting Ltd, the radio division of the India Today Group, on Wednesday rolled out Meow 104.8 FM in Delhi, India’s first talk-based radio station for women.

Meow stations are due for launch in Mumbai, Kolkata, Amritsar, Patiala, Shimla and Jodhpur in the coming months. Talk radio is an exciting, new concept in India and will certainly be an emerging trend in the Indian market.

The launch of Meow 104.8 FM has taken immense courage and Radio Today believes that it is fantastic to be different. Meow 104.8 FM will seek to become the voice of the woman.

    Hi!
meow realy rocks! i realy like it.All the topice they choose is realy nice viz.realationship, friendship, carrier women, etc. But ur host n caller oftenly talk in english.See if people don’t talk in local language how other people will relate themself with others b’coz in INDIA each n every person is not educated n there r many people who r not able to call u people but they may have similer problems.so if u talking about any issuse make useful not only who r educated but to uneducated also, this thing will realy help ur station to grow faster b’coz u talk more n play less music n that is ur +piont.

It’s good that a radio station has been launched which is dedicated to women and having women as the target audience. I’ve got no issues with that. But I would like to say something about the punch-line “just for women”. Is it really necessary to have a punch-line like this? How can a music channel be ever termed like that? Does this mean that the songs which are played are not meant for men, or is it that men don’t have the right to listen to these songs? How can you segregate the line of men and women when it comes to music? Isn’t music supposed to be universal? That’s what we used to think till today. Music is not like magazines, beauty-parlours or toilets, that it needs to have a punch-line “just for women”. Aren’t men supposed to listen to songs? Even cartoons are meant “just for kids”. But have we ever seen cartoon channels using that kind of a punchline? Does it mean that adults are banned from watching cartoons? Why only cartoons, all the K-serials on television primarily have women as the target audience, but that doesn’t necessarily justify using that kind of a punch-line. I really love some of the songs played on 104.8 FM. But sometimes I wonder whether I’m committing a “crime” by listening to these songs, since I’m not a woman. I hope I’m not misunderstood, I have absolutely no problems about a channel dedicated to women. But I just expressed my views about the punchline.I hope this matter will be looked into.

A warm Hi! to all hosts of Meow104.8,
I have been listening to your ‘thought provoking’ shows for the last couple of months. I must say with every passing day these meow shows are gaining popularity among intelectual masses. I admit, the subjects picked up for debate & discussions during the shows are ,indeed, burning & current issues and handled so well. You say, Meow 104.8 shows are dedicated to women only, but whatever may be the reasons these are becoming more popular among men folk. What do you say?
As I am an office goer, I can tune in only with the shows hosted by ROSHI & JAYSHREE, Ginnie and at times Anil for ‘Between the sheets’. Dr. Kiran bedi has been the source of inspirations for the masses while in uniform and she has been even better and excellent with her new role in giving her expert guidance to the needy and deprived.
My good wishes to all the hosts for the days to come. Please keep up the good work to entertain and enlighten the beautiful listners of Delhi and NCR.

    Hi,

Its a great pleasure to have a radio channel like this. Not bcoz it is meant primarily for women but because they play all the beautiful songs which u will hardly hear on other channels (which play the same songs over and over). Please keep this unique trend intact.

    Thanks

A big hello to the team of Meow. Honestly speaking i hear only Anil’s show between the sheets at late nites and i totally floored by his attitude of say it like it is… It takes lot of guts to put things across so straight and be so honest abt things… The topics are also very nice and some even invoke and stimulate thoughts. He is great and has a strong and attractive voice. U R DOING A GREAT JOB ANIL.

HI. i think its a great idea to hv a womens only channel. the indian women do need a forum to discuss their issues most blatantly and emerge out of the chauvinistic culture we hv imbibed on them for centuries.
kudos and keep it up for being different.

The issues which are discussed are really practical & at the same time Important.
Most of the time they are emotional and psychological, which when discussed gives the best solution to the personal problems .
It provides excellent platform to express the inner self and it brings improvement ,and great changes in understanding of women.
Thus helps them to lead a confident and better life
